THE STORY
A Missed Connection That Wasn't
We met in September 2009.
On Craigslist.
Missed Connections, of all places.
Two teenagers in Bellingham, Washington. One improbable encounter, one response, and absolutely no idea what would come next.
What began as curiosity became something much bigger.
A life in Seattle. College degrees. Careers. A home of our own. Two dachshunds named Hansel and Wimbledon, who were convinced everything belonged to them.
We were young, ambitious, occasionally ridiculous, and surprisingly certain about what we wanted.
And we built it together.
TWO PROPOSALS. ONE DECISION.
On Christmas Day, 2010, we proposed to each other.
Neither of us had been waiting for the other to ask.
Sean chose a Cartier tri-gold ring. Raven chose a Tiffany black titanium ring.
Different rings. Same answer.
We had already chosen each other long before there was a ceremony to make it official.
The question wasn't whether we would get married.
It was where.
WHY STOCKHOLM?
Raven's family had roots in Germany and Sweden. Stockholm offered something personal: a connection to his heritage and a place neither of us would forget.
For Sean, it would also be his first trip to Europe.
We didn't want a grand production. We wanted somewhere beautiful, somewhere meaningful, and something entirely our own.
So we chose Stockholm.
In January.
In the middle of winter.
Because apparently a Scandinavian snowstorm seemed like an excellent setting for a wedding.
JANUARY 26, 2014
Stockholm was quiet.
Snow drifted through the streets. The air was crisp, the waterfront almost monochrome, and the city seemed to move at a slower pace.
We stayed at the Grand Hôtel.
There was no enormous guest list, no elaborate reception, and no audience waiting for a performance.
Just the two of us, dressed for the occasion, walking through a city that felt as though it had been arranged specifically for that day.
The ceremony was simple.
We made our promises.
We got married.
And then we stepped back outside.
The snow was still falling. Stockholm continued about its business.
Nothing around us had changed.
But something between us had become official.
A COVENANT IN SNOW AND CHAMPAGNE
Our vows weren't about creating a perfect life.
They were about continuing the one we'd already begun.
About curiosity, ambition, laughter, indulgence, and the pleasure of discovering the world together.
About building a life that didn't merely function, but felt extraordinary to the people living it.
We had found each other in the least romantic corner of the internet imaginable.
And somehow, five years later, we were standing together in Stockholm, exchanging vows in the snow.
It was improbable.
It was intentional.
And it was ours.
WHAT REMAINS
Time moves. People change. Not every story continues in the way its authors once imagined.
But that doesn't diminish what happened.
There was a missed connection in Bellingham.
A home in Seattle.
Two dachshunds.
Two proposals.
And a winter wedding in Stockholm.
On January 26, 2014, we chose each other.
That day was real. The happiness was real. The life we built was real.
And some moments deserve a place where they can always be remembered.
